Vicki L. Johnson, 49, former LCSC official

BOISE Vicki Lynn Johnson, 49, a former director of Advising, Counseling and Health Services at Lewis-Clark State College at Lewiston, died Thursday of cancer at her home here.

She was born Aug. 4, 1946, to Norman L. and Sally J. Johnson at Moscow. She attended Moscow schools and graduated from Moscow High School in 1964.

She attended the University of Idaho at Moscow and joined the Alpha Phi sorority. After receiving a bachelor's degree in business administration, she traveled to Vietnam to work as a recreation specialist for the troops stationed at Quang Tri during the Vietnam War.

She returned to the UI and received a second bachelor's degree in recreation education. She moved to Wiesbaden, Germany, for four years and worked as a recreation director for the U.S. Air Force.

After returning to the area, she received a master's degree in counseling from Washington State University at Pullman. She then earned a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.

She worked for LCSC as director of Advising, Counseling and Health Services until 1989. She then moved to Boise and served as the associate academic officer for the Idaho State Board of Education.

In 1993 she became the director of graduate studies and the Whittenberger Summer Writing Institute at Albertson College of Idaho at Caldwell.

Survivors include her parents, Norman and Sally Johnson of Moscow; and one brother, John Pavel of Leavenworth, Wash.

One brother, James Pavel, died previously.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Moscow. The Revs. Gordon Braun and John Blom of that church will officiate.

A private committal service will be held before the memorial service. Memorials may be made to the University of Idaho Foundation of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Moscow.
