The following obituary was found in the Thursday, June 23, 1994 issue of the Idahonian.

June 23, 1994

Steven Paul Howard, 48, a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday at Gritman Medical Center of a heart attack.

He was born Feb 19, 1946, to Robert E and Dolores Wernke Howard at Indianapolis, Ind. The family moved to the Flannigan Creek area near Viola when he was young. He attended Moscow schools, graduating from Moscow High School in 1964. He attended the University of Idaho for a time then worked at Tri-State Distributors and as a truck driver for North American Van Lines.

In 1971, he went to work for Washington State University in the heavy equipment shop as a driver and was employed there at the time of his death.

He married Diane Wood, June 4, 1983, at Kansas City, Mo.

He was a member of the Moscow Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching and served in the Idaho Army National Guard for 14 years.

He is survived by his wife at Moscow; three daughters, Donalyn Howard of Beaverton, Ore., Marci and Stephanie Howard, both of Corvallis, Ore.; his mother of Moscow; a sister Cheryl Howard of Girard, Ill., and a brother, David Howard of Aloha, Ore.

His father preceded him in death in 1987.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Dave McGarrah officiating. Private burial will follow at the Rock Creek Cemetery near Potlatch.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Nazarene Church Local Compassionate Ministries Program.

Services are under the direction of Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow.
